Norwich have announced the signing of Portuguese right-back Ivo Pinto from Dinamo Zagreb. The 26-year-old has joined for an undisclosed fee on a three-and-a-half-year deal.Pinto came through the Porto youth system, before having spells at Rio Ave and Romanian club CFR Cluj ahead of his move to Zagreb in July 2013.The defender, who won the Croatian league title in 2014 and 2015, brings with him experience of Champions League football this season, having played for Dinamo against Arsenal and Bayern Munich.Pinto, whose paperwork was being processed on Friday, hopes to be able to help Norwich secure their place in the Barclays Premier League for another season.“I’ve worked hard to arrive in the best league in the world, so this move means a lot to me,” he told Norwich City TV.“English football is very fast and very intense for the whole game. That matches me well because my best qualities as a player are being fast and intense too.“I want to improve as a player, and as a person. This is a fantastic country and I want to learn as much as I can from its footballing culture.“I’m very excited to come here and play for a big club in the Premier League, now I’m looking forward to starting work to help the team achieve their goals.”Norwich manager Alex Neil believes Pinto will add depth to his squad, who are six points above the relegation zone and host Manchester City in the FA Cup on Saturday.“He’s a Portuguese Under-21 international and at only 26 has his best years ahead of him. He is an athletic and good defender and will bring us options at the back,” said Neil. Ivo Pinto 1
Liverpool appear to have been priced out of a January move for forward Alex Teixeira after Shakhtar Donetsk’s chief executive Sergei Palkin set the fee at £53million – for a summer transfer. The Reds opened negotiations with the Ukrainians last week after chief executive Ian Ayre flew out to their winter training camp in Florida. However, after a £24million offer was declined talks have continued but the two parties are so far apart in their valuation of the 26-year-old Brazilian it now seems unlikely there will be any deal done before the transfer window closes.“Liverpool stopped after an offer of 32million euro (£24m) and a 4m euro (£3m) bonus,” Palkin told Ukrainian television channel Football 1.“We obviously refused to accept it. This is the last number that was announced. Our position is that we do not want to sell Teixeira today.“We will sell him only at the end of the season. We need to have some good results in the Europa League and the Ukraine championship.“At the end of the season we will sit down at the negotiating table. Teixeira has a compensation charge in his contract – the price is 70m euro (£53m).“Please, if someone wants him – let them come and declare themselves.” 1 Alex Teixeira

AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREGame Center: Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday, 10 a.m. Neil Young dusted off some rarely played chestnuts for longtime fans in his first of two concerts at downtown’s new Nokia Theatre on Tuesday night. Dividing his show into two sets, one acoustic and the other electric, Young offered up songs both underplayed and downright obscure. His graceful and melodic acoustic set included the lesser-known (and in some cases, never officially released) “Sad Movies,” “Don’t Say You Win, Don’t Say You Lose,” “Love Art Blues,” “Star of Bethlehem” and a banjo version of “Mellow My Mind” alongside perennial favorites “After the Gold Rush” and “A Man Needs a Maid.” Two ’70s tunes resurrected by Young felt as fresh as the day they were written, thanks to the current political scene. Lyrics written about Richard Nixon for the gorgeously esoteric “Ambulance Blues” resonated anew: “I never knew a man who could tell so many lies “He had a different story for every set of eyes “How could he remember who he’s talking to “‘Cause I know it isn’t me and I hope it isn’t you.” Young even changed the lyric for another Nixon song, “Campaigner,” to sing, “Even George Bush has got soul.” During the hard-grinding electric set, the stage was set up to look like an abandoned theater, with a random array of marquee lights dangling in the background. A man in a red sport coat and Panama hat portrayed an artist touching up paintings containing the titles of the songs Young and his backing band Crazy Horse performed, setting each canvas upon an easel to the side of the stage announcing each number. Again, Young strayed from the well-worn path of previous tours’ set lists, largely eschewing the hits in favor of nuggets not often heard in concert: “Cinnamon Girl” and “Tonight’s the Night” were the only staples from previous tours. Young reached back into his vast catalogue and unearthed “The Loner,” “Bad Fog of Loneliness,” “Winterlong” and “Oh Lonesome Me.” So it might seem something of a surprise that the evening’s highlight was an extended jam of a song from his latest album, “Chrome Dreams II.” (“Chrome Dreams” was the working title of a ’70s album that was never released.) On his new album, “No Hidden Path” runs 14 and a half minutes; with a number of extended fierce guitar solos, Young and his band may have gotten close to bringing the song in around 20 minutes. For a guy who will turn 62 in November, Young boasts an astonishing amount of energy, and he brought it Tuesday night. While concertgoers hoping to hear the hits may have been disappointed, fans who understand just how many great songs Young has written appreciated that he dug a little deeper into his vaults for material this time around. Arsene Wenger should try bring Yaya Toure to Arsenal in the summer, according to Stuart Pearce. The four-time African Player of the Year, 32, looks set to leave the Etihad in the summer, despite having a year remaining on his contract. The midfielder’s agent Dimitry Seluk suggested in January that his client is unlikely to stay at the club if Pep Guardiola is manager. The Barcelona legend was later appointed as Manuel Pellegrini’s replacement and Spanish football expert Graham Hunter told talkSPORT Toure has ‘no chance’ of staying at the club. With his future in doubt, reports have suggested Toure would be interested in staying in the Premier League.Arsenal have plenty of flair in midfield, but they have faltered in the title race due to their lack of presence and power, and Pearce believes the Man City powerhouse would be a good signing for the north Londoners.“On his day Yaya Toure is outstanding,” he said on the Colin Murray show.“Arsenal need an old head within the team.“Petr Cech has proved a fantastic success this year at Arsenal, and to have a player like Toure at the centre of midfield, as that holding type of player, I think he’d give one or two of the youngsters a bit of a lift.“I think he’d be a good signing for them.”
Brendan Rodgers has been out of work since October 1 Celtic have appointed Brendan Rodgers as their new manager, the Scottish Champions have confirmed. The former Liverpool boss replaces Ronny Deila after agreeing a 12-month rolling contract. His first task will be to guide the Hoops through the qualifying stages for the Champions League but he will also have to fend off the challenge presented by Rangers on their return to the top flight.Rodgers said: “I am absolutely delighted to be named Celtic manager. This is genuinely a huge honour for me. I have followed Celtic all my life and to be given this fantastic opportunity and to be part of such a truly great football club is a dream come true.“I will give my new role everything I have and do all I can to bring our supporters exciting, entertaining and winning football.“The club has been in magnificent shape in recent years and has collected silverware regularly during this time. My objective now, of course, is to continue this work, to keep us at the top and again make our mark in Europe.“I know what a magnificent support Celtic enjoys and I can promise our fans one thing – that I will be doing everything I can to give you a team that you can be proud of and a team that delivers.“I can’t wait to be in Paradise with our team and our fans as we all get to work.”
Buncrana Chamber of Commerce have reported a huge increase in the past two years, of local Buncrana Shopping Vouchers, which the Chamber operates for the benefit of local businesses. Sales have increased from €42,000 at the end of 2014, to almost treble that figure, with sales of just over €120,000 at the end of year for 2016.Welcoming the increase in the voucher sales, Chamber President Ryan Stewart said it is a huge endorsement of the ‘Shop Local’ ethos the Chamber is trying to promote. “At a time when exchange rates seemed to favour shopping in the north, it’s clear that the message is getting through, and has the support of local people. We have even had online orders for the vouchers from as far away as Australia, with people using the vouchers as a cost-effective way of sending presents home!”“As well as the rebranding and marketing of the vouchers, one of the main reasons for the increase is that more and more local employers are availing of the tax benefits associated with the vouchers. Employers can pay staff up to €500 tax-free in vouchers, which is ideal for Christmas bonuses, for example. If employers had paid their staff in cash, this would be taxed. We have been driving this message forward over the past two years, and it’s working for the benefit of all of our members.“You don’t have to be a Chamber member to avail of the tax benefits available by giving these vouchers to your staff, but you do have to be a member if you want to redeem these vouchers for cash from shoppers, so, in short, there’s €120,000 worth of vouchers which need to be redeemed, so join up now.”He thanked all the retailers who sell these vouchers saying they were inundated in the run up to Christmas, and did a great job promoting the vouchers to local shoppers. Buncrana Shopping vouchers are available from Macs Bookshop, SuperValu Buncrana, the Lunch Box, Farrens Mace and Bradleys Fahan.Mr Stewart is stepping down from his role in the Chamber this week, and has added that he has welcomed the support he received during his time in the Chamber.“It has been very rewarding personally, and I have to thank all of the local businesses, as well as the committee, who supported what we have been trying to achieve over the past two years. A new board is due to be elected next week, and I would strongly urge those in business locally to get more involved in the Chamber. The Chamber is now very well resourced to deliver even more value for the town, but input is needed. A small amount of your time can go a very long way.”Record year as Buncrana reports shopping voucher surge was last modified: February 15th, 2017 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)
