Former Miami Gardens Police Chief accused of sexual misconduct

first_imgA former Miami Gardens Police Chief has been accused of sexual misconduct by a former Broward High School basketball star,  who had applied to become a Miami Gardens police officer. The woman said during that process she received special attention from another member of the force: then acting police Chief Antonio Brooklen.Brooklen then began texting and calling her.She also said that he touched her inappropriately in a patrol car and said she went along with it because she did not want to be fired. The victim said the inappropriate attention made her uncomfortable and that she had no romantic interest in Brooklen because she is a lesbian. After she got the job, she said she began dating another young officer, Kimberly McDonald. Then she learned that McDonald was having an intimate relationship with another member of the force.McDonald’s lover was the same Miami Gardens Police Chief Antonio Brooklen. On April 18, Battle, who was on duty at the time, and McDonald had a domestic dispute at McDonald’s home.Police were called. It sparked an internal investigation and Battle alleges that Brooklen pressured her to resign her position, promising her he would help her get a job. She resigned a week after the incident, on April 25.The internal investigation, however, wasn’t concluded until two months later.McDonald was suspended with pay.Battle’s attorney, Stephan Lopez, said he sent an intent-to-sue letter to the city September 19 on behalf of Battle alleging sexual harassment ,among other causes.Three days later, Brooklen abruptly resigned as the top cop, from a position he’d called his dream job less than a year before. In his letter he cited the health of his mother, who is seriously ill.McDonald is still suspended with pay, in limbo, deprived of her badge and gun.Brooklen was demoted and suspended for 30 days back in 2009 after a sexual harassment complaint was made by a female crime scene technician that he was sexually harassing her with phone calls and text messages. The employee alleged he offered to give her a massage, asked to take her out, and encouraged her to wear “something short” to show off her legs. The internal investigation found  “considerable inappropriate behavior” on Brooklen’s part and that he “demonstrated in extremely poor judgment in pursuing a relationship with” the woman, “without thinking about the consequences or impact it would have on his own marriage … or most importantly the Miami Gardens Police Department.”last_img read more

Frank Talk! Eagles Strikers Are Better Than Abraham – Former England International

first_imgFormer England striker John Fashanu has disclosed that the current crop of Super Eagles strikers are better than Swansea City star Tammy Abraham.Abraham was courted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) with the hope that he will play for the Super Eagles but he has since pledged his international allegiance to England. He was part of the last England squad for the international friendly games against Germany and Brazil and he ended up featuring in both games. He was in the starting XI for the game against the world champions Germany.John Fashanu was speaking about Tammy Abraham in a chat with Own Goal as he added that there are better players in the Super Eagles that are better suited to the team’s style of play than the on-loan Chelsea player. In his words, Fashanu said: “Tammy Abraham took the easy option. He will play regularly for England than Nigeria , where I think they have better players who are suited to the style of play of the team.”” His case won’t be any different from mine when I was called up but later decided to pursue a career with England. I watched a training session, there and then I decided I don’t belong here.” The strikers in the Nigerian team are ball to feet type of forwards unlike Abraham who thrives on crosses into the box, the typical English forward style of play.” You look at Iheanacho (Kelechi) , Iwobi (Alex), Ighalo (Odion), infact the Nigerian forwards in the team now and you will see they share almost similar quality in terms of skill set, sadly Abraham is a typical English forward, he won’t get games even if he opt for Nigeria. ” he concluded. UKGC warns fantasy football operators not to get caught out by gambling rules

first_imgAhead of the start of a new football season this August, the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has issued an industry note warning fantasy football operators to ensure that their leagues, prizes and promotions are in accordance with UK gambling laws. The risk for those organising fantasy football leagues is that it could require a pool licence from the Gambling Commission, as prize values are determined by the number of paying entrants. The exception to this is where it is not run in the course of a business, or where it is run privately, for example with residents of the same premises or between work colleagues. One area that operators are being told to be particularly aware of to avoid being caught out is advertising and social media. The UKGC warns that when it comes to gambling, advertising includes doing anything that encourages someone gamble, or provides information about gambling facilities so that it will increase use. This also includes Twitter or Facebook posts, whether public, or private or within groups.Promoting a fantasy football league in this way could mean it is being operated in the course of a business and need an operating licence.Ben Haden, Programme Director at the Gambling Commission said: “Fantasy football is no doubt a popular pastime for many during football season and many will be thinking about setting up their own league this summer. We want to ensure that those organising these leagues – whether it’s between friends, work colleagues or otherwise – are aware of the legalities and do not breach gambling rules.” UKGC hails ‘delivered efficiencies’ of its revamped licence maintenance service  August 20, 2020 Related Articles StumbleUpon Submit UKGC launches fourth National Lottery licence competition August 28, 2020 Winning Post: Swedish regulator pushes back on ‘Storebror’ approach to deposit limits August 24, 2020 Share Sharelast_img read more
