Body found in ’99 was local teen

first_img“In this case, Danielle had been a runaway apparently, like, nine previous times,” sheriff’s Detective Joseph Martinez said. “I guess the mother just felt that she would return, because that was a habit she had. She would be gone for weeks or months at a time and she would return.” The girl’s mother, Carolyn Hutton, declined to comment Tuesday, saying only that she hoped anyone with information about her daughter’s disappearance would come forward. At the time the body was found, authorities estimated it had been in the ground for two to three months, which means that Danielle would have been alive for several months after she went missing, Martinez said. “She most likely was staying with friends,” Martinez said. Anyone with more information on the case is asked to call Martinez, at (323) 890-5500. SANTA CLARITA – A body found nearly eight years ago in the Angeles National Forest has been identified as that of a teenage girl who was reported missing only last year, officials said Tuesday. Danielle Hutton was 16 in June 1998, when she disappeared after visiting a dentist’s office in Newhall. Authorities said her mother hired a private detective, but didn’t call police until last year, thinking her daughter had run away and would return on her own. So, it wasn’t until recently that authorities were able to use dental records to identify the body found May 21, 1999, in a shallow grave near Indian Canyon and Soledad Canyon roads. last_img read more
